Before the Presidential Elections to be held on November 5 in the USA, Donald Trump’s supporters are trying to encourage black voters to vote for the former president with artificial intelligence-generated fake images.
African American voters predominantly voted for Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 elections, where Republican Party candidate Trump lost.
BBC investigation finds dozens of images showing black Americans and Trump together fake image Has detected.
However, with these images, There is no evidence directly linking Trump’s campaign.
Black Voters Matter, an organization that tries to encourage black voters to vote, considers the fake images in question as part of a strategy to make Trump seem sympathetic.
The BBC also managed to reach the creators of the artificial intelligence-generated visuals. One of those people argued that these images “do not claim to be real.”
Artificial intelligence production is fake “Trump-supporting black voters” visuals are disinformation that draws attention before the presidential elections one of the trends.
During the campaign before the 2016 Presidential Elections, which Trump won, it was proven that there were some attempts by foreign countries to influence the election outcome. However, it appears that the artificial intelligence images in question were produced and shared by US voters.
Artificial intelligence programs such as Stable Diffusion and Midjourney can create images by users describing the image they want with words.
This technology has improved greatly since the last presidential election.
BBC Disinformation and Social Media Correspondent Mariana Spring reached out to Mark Kaye, a Florida-based conservative radio personality who created such images.
Kaye and his team produced artificial intelligence content showing Trump sympathetically with black women at a party, and shared this image on Kaye’s Facebook account, which has more than a million followers.
In this Facebook post, Kaye argued that black people supported Trump and used this fake image.
In the image in question, some signs that bear traces of artificial intelligence production, such as missing fingers, stand out.
However, in the comments under this post, it seems that many users believe that the artificial intelligence image is real.
Speaking to the BBC, radio broadcaster Kaye argues that he is not a photojournalist but “a storyteller”: “I did not claim that this was real. ‘Look, Donald Trump was at the party with these African American voters. Look how much they love him!’ I didn’t say. “If someone votes one way or another because of a photo they saw on Facebook, that’s that person’s problem.”
In another similarly produced image, Trump is seen posing with black voters on the porch of a house.
This image was first shared on a comedy account. However, it was later shared by another account as if it were real and received a large number of views. The account that recirculated the fake image claimed that Trump’s convoy stopped to pose with these young people.
It was unable to detect fake images that would make President Joe Biden sympathetic to a group of voters.
A recent public opinion poll conducted by the New York Times and the University of Sienna shows that 71 percent of black voters in six key states support Biden. This rate was 92 percent nationally in the 2020 election won by Biden.
Cliff Albright from Black Voters Matter, which works to get black voters to the polls, argues that fake pro-Trump content targets mostly young black men. This group of voters is considered to be closer to voting for Trump than black female voters.
