Chip manufacturer TSMC, which has made a major breakthrough recently, officially opened its first Japan factory. Many high-ranking government officials, especially the Minister of Economy Ken Saito, attended the opening in Kumamoto city. The organization, in which the company’s chairman Mark Liu and founder Morris Chang were also present, created tremendous excitement in the country.
This factory is expected to produce chips that will be used largely in the automotive and smartphone industries. The factory, which will start mass production after a short testing period, is TSMC’s first production facility outside the country. Here are all the details…

It is stated that Japanese giants Sony and Renesas will benefit most from the factory’s production. In his statement on the subject, the country’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed his satisfaction with this opening and underlined that they will continue their financial support to the chip industry at full speed.
In addition, Kishida said that they will provide the necessary facilities for the second TSMC factory, which is planned to be opened in Kumamoto. It was recently revealed that the government had prepared an incentive package worth 4.86 billion dollars for this factory.
Just before the opening, TSMC management announced that they had doubled their investments in the country to 20 billion dollars. It is said that the second factory, which is planned to start production towards the end of 2027, will specialize in special chips used in high-performance computers.
Japan, which has lost its leadership in the field of technology in recent years, has allocated a large budget to return to its old days. We will see over time whether they will be successful or not.
