The final tests of Türksat 6A at the Space Systems Integration and Testing (USET) Center have been completed and the packaging process is nearing completion. Türksat 6A, which will be sent to SpaceX’s facilities on June 4, will be launched with the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in the second week of July.
Minister Uraloğlu said the following regarding the issue:
“I am proud to say that we have successfully completed our country’s largest R&D Project, Türksat 6A. We are now in the process of sending it into space. The packaging processes of our satellite are about to be completed at USET. On Tuesday, June 4, our national pride Türksat 6A satellite will be launched by Antonov Ankara from Ankara. Our satellite will depart for Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, USA, with a 124 type aircraft. After a journey that will last approximately 17 hours, our satellite will land in the hangar at the SpaceX facilities at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, and the fuel tests of Türksat 6A will be carried out there. “The filling process will be carried out in SpaceX’s hangar and we plan to send it to space with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket in the second week of July.”
Which companies produced what?
Türksat 6A has a 90 percent localization rate. TÜBİTAK Spaceproduced the satellite management subsystem, orbit orientation control subsystem, power subsystem, electric propulsion subsystem, interface control units and communications payload.
C2TECH produced all telemetry, telecommand and distance measurement subsystems domestically and nationally, from the telemetry/beacon signal transmitter to the telecommand receiver, from the non-directional receiver antenna to the receiver test adapter.
ASELSAN, on the other hand, enabled Türksat 6A to reach this stage by manufacturing the Turkey antenna, Receiver, INET and Payload Interface Unit. TAI, which is responsible for the design of the structural and thermal systems, produced the satellite’s structural panels and battery panel and installed them on the satellite. Thanks to these products, which were produced by R&D for the first time,
What will be the benefits of TÜRKSAT 6A?
Turksat 6A will also cover regions such as South-East Asia where existing satellites do not serve. It will be possible to access Turksat 6A from countries such as India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. With the commissioning of Türksat 6A, all of Türksat’s satellites will broadcast to a population of 4.5 billion.
Türksat 6A will serve in geostationary orbit at 42 degrees east longitude, at an altitude of 35 thousand 786 kilometers. With the commissioning of Türksat 6A, Turkey’s Ku Band capacity will increase by 528 Mhz and reach 6 thousand 668 Mhz.
Turksat 6A features
- Useful load: 16 Ku-Band Transmitters
- Orbit: 42˚ East
- Power Generation: 7,5 kW
- Design Lifecycle: > 15 Years
- Mass: Approx. 4250 kg
