The possibility of TikTok being banned in the USA is increasing. For this purpose, Instagram is preparing to provide important updates for Reels. These updates, which will be available first in the US, will make it easier for users to discover and engage with new Reels videos.
According to Meta, Instagram’s parent company, a new button is being added to the top-right corner of the Reels tab. This button will show the profile pictures of friends and followers who have liked or commented on Reels. Meta believes this feature will encourage conversations about the content.
Additionally, Instagram will add a “reply bar” below Reels that will allow users to easily respond to interactions from their connections. For example, if a friend likes Reels, their profile picture and a heart icon will appear in the reply bar.
These updates come as the US passed legislation that will ban TikTok starting January 19. While a significant group of TikTok users have switched to RedNote to protest the ban, US businesses and brands are expected to return to Instagram.
First of all, let us state that the US government made this decision on the grounds that TikTok could threaten national security. The law requires the China-based company to transfer its US operations to an American company. However, if TikTok does not accept this, the application’s activities in the country will be completely terminated.
Meta wants to solidify its position for creators and build a solid ecosystem of brands/advertisers. New Reels features will enable deeper interaction with content and encourage conversation.
