About three years ago Ubisoftannounced The Division Heartland, a free-to-play entry in the survival-action shooter series. At the time, it was suggested that Heartland would arrive in late 2021 or 2022, but this never happened. In fact, Heartland never comes out.
Ubisoftsaid in its quarterly earnings report that Red Storm Entertainment, the studio co-founded by writer Tom Clancy, has ended development of the game it was working on.
Ubisoftis shifting its resources to what it calls “bigger opportunities,” including XDefiant and other aspects of the Clancyverse in the Rainbow Six series.
Ubisoft’s free-to-play Division game has ended
Ubisofthas canceled a number of games over the past few years in an attempt to streamline its production line and cut costs. He stated that at the end of March, the number of employees decreased by more than 1,700 in 18 months, reaching 19,011 employees.
The company also provided an update on its overall strategy. It plans to focus on two key pillars: open=world games (like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws) and ongoing live-service games (XDefiant and Rainbow Six Siege). This is where Ubisoft sees room for growth, so you can expect more Far Cry and Ghost Recon games in the coming years.
