Last weekend, the first handheld console game emulator debuted on the App Store. A new emulator, iGBA, is apparently the first Game Boy Advance emulator to be available on the App Store since Apple started allowing emulators worldwide.
However, 24 hours after its launch, this game emulator was removed from the App Store. The reason for the removal is not yet known, but it is speculated that iGBA is simply a copy of the open source project GBA4iOS and was released to the store without permission or proper licensing.
Copyright Violation on App Store
This appears to have been confirmed after Apple removed the app for violating copyright and spam rules, MacRumors reported. Because this doesn’t appear to be iGBA developer Mattia La Spina’s own work.
The copyright infringement may have occurred due to a complaint by GBA4iOS creator Riley Testut about stealing iGBA’s code and assets. (The only significant difference between iGBA and GBA4iOS was the addition of ads.) However, this could also come into question due to the possible piracy implications of a category of ROM emulators.
How to Cancel Subscriptions Started via App Store?
Many of us have accidentally or deliberately subscribed to a paid application that repeats payments. Maybe we don’t use it at all anymore, but we don’t even realize that we are constantly paying.
Another problem with iGBA is that it collects data that can be used to identify users, such as location data and identifiers, according to its App Store listing. However, when users installed the app, they reported that they did not encounter the location data consent or the nested browser tracker consent form that some Reddit users reported.
