Apple’s offering of a satellite connection option for emergencies with the iPhone 14 models was one of the turning points in the smartphone industry. If you have skidded on the road or are in trouble at a point where the phone does not have reception, you can call for help by connecting to the satellite.
After this feature, which is not yet active in our country, Android phone manufacturers took action. Samsung, which plans to offer this feature in the Galaxy S23 models, did not include satellite connection in the recently released Galaxy S24 series.
Google Pixel 9 Will Have Satellite Connection!
While manufacturers such as Samsung continue their work, Google, the developer of Android, has already taken action. According to new information, Pixel 9 and Pixel Fold models will offer users the satellite connection feature for emergencies.
While Google is initially planned to work with T-Mobile for this service, it is reported that negotiations with other providers are continuing. You may think, “What does T-Mobile have to do with it? You say satellite connection, but you are talking about the GSM operator,” but T-Mobile and SpaceX reached an agreement for satellite communication more than a year ago.
As with Apple phones, Google Pixel phones will ask the user some questions when an emergency assistance request is sent via satellite. The number of people, whether the injured person is breathing, weapon and vehicle status are just a few of these questions.
Of course, satellite connection is costly and Garmin charges $15 per month for it. Apple, on the other hand, does not charge any fee to iPhone users and covers the costs itself. We will all see what Google will do.
Google Pixel 9 Series Features, Price and Release Date
A lot of information has emerged so far about the features of the Google Pixel 9 series, which is expected to consist of Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro models.
It is worth noting that there are several Chinese manufacturers promising this feature. However, only Huawei’s satellite connection feature is operational only in China. Fortunately, Google’s availability of this feature on its own phones will accelerate the spread of Android phones with satellite connections.
