WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow group chats to be mentioned in status updates. Currently, this innovation is actively available to users in the Android beta version on the Google Play Store.
Previously, WhatsApp tested the feature of mentioning individual contacts in status updates. The possibility of tagging group chats is considered an expanded version of this feature. When users mention a person, both a notification and a message are sent to the relevant person on the chat screen.
With this new feature, it will be possible to mention a group chat via status update. This will eliminate the hassle of labeling each group member individually. While currently a maximum of five people can be mentioned in a status update, mentioning group chats will allow you to reach all participants at once. A notification will automatically be sent to the group chat in question and all group members will be able to see this status update. However, people who have previously muted the group chat will not receive this notification.
Status updates mentioned in the group chat will be shared visible to all group members. For this, a system will operate independent of current privacy settings. However, there is no information yet on whether there will be specific restrictions on group labeling. For example, any restrictions can be placed on the number of group participants or the number of groups that can be tagged in a status update.
It is expected that more details will be shared in the coming days about how this innovation will fully work and when it will reach the final user version. WhatsApp aims to improve the user experience with such tests and continues to work to expand the scope of features.
