WhatsApp officially announced on Thursday that it has released an update that includes a revamped design for its iOS and Android applications. With this update, users will notice a new color palette and other changes that make the usage experience smoother on both platforms.
With the update, WhatsApp adopts green as the accent color of the application. With this change, notification badges and buttons will now appear green. The changes to Android are even more radical; The tab bar has been moved to the bottom of the screen, making the application more similar to the iPhone version.
Details about WhatsApp’s new design
For Dark Mode, WhatsApp states that it changes colors to higher contrast and darker tones to reduce eye fatigue in low-light environments. This change was made after users requested a “darker dark mode”. Additionally, icons and illustrations have been updated to a more rounded and contoured style. The app also received new animations and chat wallpapers.
The following statement came from WhatsApp regarding the issue: “At WhatsApp, our work shapes the way more than 2 billion people around the world communicate every day. We take this role seriously and focus on the details to do the right thing for our users. We aim to create an app that not only works smoothly, but also feels like a natural extension of your phone, allowing you to focus on the important conversations in your daily life.
Our design philosophy is based on our product principles of keeping WhatsApp simple, reliable and private. By filtering these principles through a design lens, we create intuitive and clear flows that work universally and help people connect. At the same time, we protect their privacy. “We pay careful attention to how people use their devices and design our user interface to complement their existing experience, so WhatsApp feels familiar and easily navigated.”
These changes have been tested by WhatsApp beta users for a while but are now being publicly rolled out globally. Last month, WhatsApp updated its iOS app to introduce passkey support.
WhatsApp is available for free on Google PlayStore and App Store. Requires an iPhone running iOS 12 or later. You can access the latest features by updating the application.
