Canon introduced a compact and lightweight virtual reality (VR) lens. The Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM dual fisheye lens will be available later this month. This new lens is the brand’s first non-L-class VR lens to use Air Spherical Coating technology, providing strong anti-reflective effects.
The Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM dual fisheye lens is designed specifically for the APS-C EOS R7 mirrorless camera, offering a more usable option for those interested in VR photography. This model, the first VR lens in the RF-S series, offers a 144-degree ultra-wide angle viewing angle. It can be used as a lightweight 3D VR shooting equipment when combined with EOS R7. The lens’ built-in refractive prism and optimized structure meet the requirements of short back focus and optical path bending.
The resolution of the new VR lens with EOS R7 is similar to the RF5.2mm F2.8 L dual fisheye combination with EOS R5. The pixel density per 1 degree angle of view of the lens is similar to the RF5.2mm F2.8 L dual fisheye lens. The left and right lenses of the VR lens integrate an electromagnetically driven aperture that provides consistent exposure for the two lenses.
Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 lens is equipped with a stepping motor with dual-lens autofocus function. It can drag the left and right lenses synchronously for autofocus. The shooting and production process of the EOS VR system includes shooting, imaging, conversion and editing. Users can turn their videos and photos into VR content using the EOS VR Utility app.
The Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 lens is scheduled to be released later this month. However, there is no information yet about the price and availability of the new Canon VR lens.
