Microsoft has been showing ads in Windows 11 for a while now. After the application ads in the start menu, it started sending notifications for OneDrive. The company’s cloud backup service has started to bother Windows 11 users.
OneDrive ad for Windows 11 is annoying
Microsoft is facing criticism over new pop-up notifications touting OneDrive cloud backup. The messages warn users about the importance of backing up their data and recommend storing copies on OneDrive. Although backing up files is quite important, ads annoy users.
Users have stated that OneDrive subscription plans look like advertisements. It was also stated that notifications reappear even after they are turned off and it is not possible to disable them.
Microsoft is trying to highlight OneDrive’s features through pop-up windows. It says it gives 5GB of cloud storage for free to Windows 11 users. The company also offers paid plans starting at $2 per month for 100GB.
Microsoft has actually been trying to bring OneDrive subscription to the forefront since Windows 10. In this context, it offers free plans and special prices for users. However, the latest notifications were the last straw for users.
With the KB5037771 package, a significant change stands out in Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 versions. Microsoft now shows apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu. This menu, which is divided into a “Recommended” section, contains application ads.
So what do you think about the Windows 11 advertising policy?
