Users had reported problems using X in Pakistan since mid-February, but the government had not made an official statement.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Wednesday it was blocking access to X in time for elections in February due to national security concerns.
Access Limit to X Still Remains in Pakistan
Access to X has been limited since the national elections on February 8th. However, it is thought that many government officials, especially Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, continue to use X through VPN.
The report stated that the decision to temporarily block access to X was taken after considering confidential reports from Pakistan’s intelligence and security agencies.
“The hostile elements operating on X intend to create an environment of chaos and instability, and as a result, to destabilize the country and drag it into a kind of anarchy.” It was stated that this access block will continue due to this reason.
