Formerly known as Twitter, the posts you liked on its new name, X, which is still not completely familiar, were previously visible to everyone. The fact that these likes could be seen by others caused some users to get into trouble. X will now show posts liked by a person only to that user.
In the post made from X’s Engineering account, it was stated that users can continue to see the posts they like, but this will be hidden from other people. Post owners will be able to see the number of likes and who liked their posts. However, posts liked by other people will not be presented as a list.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, evaluated this change by saying, “It is important to allow people to like posts without being exposed to any fear of attack.”
Creators and paying users are unhappy with this change, which they claim will leave them unable to track post engagement and increase platform manipulation through paid likes. But this could allow users to like more things knowing they won’t be bullied.
Previously, only X Premium subscribers could hide their likes
Hiding likes for all users means removing one of the reasons that encourages people to subscribe to X Premium. X’s revenues suffered a major decline in 2023 and relied heavily on Premium subscriptions to recover.
