X stopped sending direct messages with encrypted!

In the social media platform X, the encrypted direct message (DM) feature was disabled for an uncertain time. In a statement made by the platform, users can not send encrypted DM as of today. However, access to encrypted messages will continue.

The encrypted direct message feature could not be used by everyone throughout the platform. In order to benefit from this feature, both the message and the recipient had to have accounts with approved (blue tic) accounts. In addition, the recipient was required to either follow the sender or accepted a message from him before.

No official justification for why the feature was disabled. It is also not clear when encrypted messages will be activated again. This development has brought the rumors that X has emerged in the past weeks and that X is working on a new messaging application.

This new application, called Xchat, aims to further expand the platform’s messaging capabilities. With this application, it is expected that additional safety features such as encrypted messaging as well as protection of chats with PIN are expected to be offered.
