As competition in the social media world increases day by day, X (formerly Twitter) introduces a new feature to its users that will further increase interest in video content. The platform aims to make content discovery easier by adding a dedicated vertical video tab for users in the US. The feature may come to other countries soon.

Is X (Twitter) trying to fill TikTok’s void?

The removal of ByteDance TikTok applications from the USA has created a great opportunity for social media giants. After TikTok and Lemon8 were deleted from the App Store and Google Play, companies such as Meta and Bluesky are working on video-focused innovations, while X is also keeping up with this change. The new Video tab will be located in the submenu of the application and will allow users to access video content on the platform faster.

X previously offered access to the video stream by clicking on a video in the timeline and swiping up. However, this new tab will be an independent discovery area dedicated to video content. Thus, X aims to increase video viewing time on the platform by offering a TikTok-like experience.

X has been attaching great importance to its video-focused initiatives lately. Last year, the platform launched a standalone TV app, allowing content creators and media organizations to deliver their videos to wider audiences. Now, as TikTok’s uncertainty in the US continues, it is trying to encourage video consumption by investing more in the vertical video format.

With this new feature, it is thought that X aims to attract users who had to leave TikTok to the Twitter platform and strengthen the video content ecosystem. The platform announced that the new tab will be available to users in the USA starting today.
