However, there is good news for those waiting for a new game: Donkey Kong Country Returns, released for Wii in 2010, is coming to Nintendo Switch on January 15, 2025. It is hoped that this game, which was very popular at that time, will still be enjoyed 15 years later. In particular, the fact that the motion controls in the Wii version are not included in this remake will make the controls of the game simpler.
This game stands out as one of the modern interpretations of the series, along with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Tropical Freeze was first released for Wii U in 2014, but due to poor sales of that console, it reached a wider audience when the game came to Switch in 2018. Although Donkey Kong Country Returns does not feel a similar need as it achieved very good sales figures in the original Wii version, Donkey Kong Country fans can’t wait for a new game. Therefore, this remake may satisfy the longing for the series to some extent. It will also offer the opportunity to rediscover for those who have not played this game for a long time.
Nintendo announced today that Samus Aran will return after 18 years with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game was first shown to players with scenes of Samus fighting alien armies on a distant planet. At first glance, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond may resemble a Halo game. However, it also includes iconic features of the Metroid series, such as enemy scanning and morph ball mechanics. The trailer ends with a new large enemy dressed in armor similar to Samus’ armor and two floating metroids.
It’s hard to glean too much detail from this brief trailer, but as someone who adored the original Metroid Prime on the Gamecube, it’s hard not to be excited. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is currently planned to be released on Switch, but I think it may also be released for Nintendo’s next-generation console.
