As a result of a massive leak that shook the gaming world, the concepts designed by Rockstar Games for the Grand Theft Auto series were revealed. In this context, it was stated that the GTA Online project was first developed in 2001.
Online mode developed for GTA San Andreas and GTA 3
According to leaked documents, Rockstar was developing a multiplayer mode for the Grand Theft Auto universe in 2001. The 58-page design document revealed the project called GTA: Online, which will include features such as character creation, progression and structured missions.
Former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij confirmed the authenticity of at least some of the leaked information, stating that he was working on the basics of the “gta3-online” mod before leaving the project. He added that much more work is needed to implement this mode.
The leak also sheds light on the content extracted from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It appears that the game was originally planned to have eight girlfriend characters instead of the six characters featured in the final version.
Additionally, the leaked files include map designs and missions for GTA: Vice City Stories and “final product notes” for GTA Advance. The latest Rockstar Games leak included details of canceled projects in 2022 and 2023, such as GTA 6, Bully 2 and Agent.
