A new report published recently by NASA revealed serious flaws in aviation giant Boeing’s Starliner space shuttle project. The report details the chain of events that led to two NASA astronauts being unexpectedly stranded on the International Space Station (ISS).
NASA: “Inexperience!”
The ‘Crew Flight Test’ mission, which started in June and is expected to last only 8 days, will be extended until 2025 unless a major miracle occurs. NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were virtually stranded on the ISS due to deficiencies in Boeing’s quality control processes.
The report prepared by the NASA Inspector General’s Office reveals the underlying reasons for Boeing’s failure in the project. Among the problems highlighted in the report, inexperienced technicians, inadequate work planning and weak control mechanisms seem to be indispensable for such a huge project.
In the conclusion of the report, NASA recommends financial penalties against Boeing for not complying with quality control standards. It seems that NASA does not neglect to blame the company it cooperates with as much as it criticizes itself.
Despite all these claims, Boeing insists that the Starliner space capsule can bring astronauts back to Earth safely. However, the company also stated that they will take the necessary steps to return the capsule empty, in line with NASA’s decision.
At this point, very interesting alternatives have come to the fore, such as bringing two victimized astronauts back to earth by SpaceX. In light of all this information, Butch Wilmore and Suni WilliamsIt seems certain that ‘s new year will be in space.
