Oppo and Ericsson signed a global cooperation agreement on cross-licensing 5G patents. According to long-term agreement; Oppo will pay royalties for using 5G technology in its future devices, and the partners will also collaborate on device testing and marketing activities.
Oppo Intellectual Property Director Feng Ying said the partnership is another step towards building a healthy long-term intellectual property (IP) portfolio for Oppo, and the Shenzhen-based manufacturer looks forward to resolving intellectual property disputes “through friendly negotiation.” Feng added that they act with an approach of “mutual respect for the value of patents”.
Ericsson said the royalty-bearing licensing agreement would allow the equipment maker to “invest further in core communications technologies.”
Oppo and Ericsson deal is not the first of its kind
A few months ago, Oppo resolved the 5G patent dispute with Nokia. A while ago, Nokia expanded its collaborations with Samsung, Honor and Apple by using new generation cellular technology and began the period of re-signing existing partnership agreements.
