Poco F5 and F5 Pro, It was among the most popular mid-segment phones of last year and it is easy to understand why. They offered an experience above its class in terms of performance and screen quality. Of course, they had some shortcomings, but the price-performance ratio they offered was quite impressive.
Now Xiaomi to fix F5’s shortcomings Little F6 introduces the series. Little F6It comes with Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a flagship-level chipset. This new chipset is manufactured on the 4nm TSMC process and offers higher performance compared to the previous model’s 7+ Gen 2 chipset with the latest Cortex-X4 and Adreno 725.
The base memory configuration is still 8/256GB but this year Xiaomi has also added the 12/512GB option, offering more storage. It comes with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The F5’s screen was pretty good and the 1080p+ resolution wasn’t bad. However, the F6 raises this standard even further with a 1.5K display (should be in the 1200p+ range). The 6.67-inch OLED panel offers 120Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 and Dolby Vision support. Offering 1200 nits of brightness in high brightness mode, the screen reaches 2400 nits at the highest brightness. The screen also features 1920Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
While the F5’s durability was good, it wasn’t perfect. The Poco F6 offers an improvement in this regard, with an IP64 rating (upgraded from IP53) and Gorilla Glass Victus (upgraded from GG5). There is not much innovation in terms of camera. The main module has a 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor and offers a pixel size of 0.7µm (the same pixel size as the previous model’s 64MP sensor). OIS is still available. The 8MP camera is the same as last year, and the front camera gets a slight upgrade, using a 20MP sensor (up from 16MP).
F6offers stereo speakers, but this time there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. Other connectivity features include NFC (region dependent) and IR blaster. Finally, the F5 had a 5000mAh battery and 67W charging speed, while the F6 sweetens the pot by offering 90W faster charging (still wired only).
Poco F6 Pro is a more premium model and has some important advantages. Firstly, it uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. While it’s a generation older than the 8s, it has a better GPU and higher clock speeds, keeping the CPU competitive. Compared to the old 8+ Gen 1 chipset of the F5 Pro, this is a proper generation upgrade.
Memory configurations start with 12/256GB and 12/512GB, and a 16GB/1TB option is now available for some markets. This again comes with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Another upgrade over the F6 is the 6.67-inch 1440p+ display and 3840Hz PWM dimming rate with 4000 nits higher peak brightness (high brightness mode is still 1200 nits). By the way, this is a 12-bit OLED panel.
Xiaomi rethought the battery configuration this year. The F6 Pro has a 5000mAh battery with 120W fast charging (both Poco models come with the correct charger in the box). A full charge takes 19 minutes, but wireless charging has been cut – for comparison, the F5 Pro came with a 5160mAh battery and 67W wired and 30W wireless charging.
The camera provides an upgrade over last year’s model, but this isn’t a camera phone. The main module has a 50MP sensor with a larger 1.0µm sensor (upgraded from 64MP 0.7µm) and has brighter f/1.6 aperture (versus f/1.8) and OIS support. The ultra-wide-angle camera is still an 8MP unit and has no telephoto module, while the front camera has a 16MP sensor.
Strangely, Xiaomi doesn’t mention anything about the display glass or the phone’s dust and water protection (the F5 Pro had an IP53 rating). As of today, Poco F6 is available for $380 for the 8/256GB base model, and for $430 for the 12/512GB version. However, early buyers will be able to get these models for $340 and $380 respectively. The F6 will be available through many retailers and carriers (and of course by Xiaomi itself). In the UK, Xiaomi’s online store has the 8/256GB model on sale for £400 (currently £340 off) and the 12/512GB model for £450 (£370 off). In Germany, two versions are available for €450 (reduced to €390) and €500 (reduced to €420). Also available on Amazon Germany.
As of today, Poco F6 Pro is available for sale with the 12/256GB model at a price of $500, the 12/512GB model at a price of $550 and the 16GB/1TB model at a price of $630. However, these prices will be $50 lower during initial sales. In Germany, the 12/256GB Pro model is priced at €500 on Amazon and the 12/512GB model is priced at €550.
In India, Flipkart will launch the Poco F6 on May 29. Regular prices are set at Rs 30,000 for the 8/256GB model, Rs 32,000 for the 12/256GB model and Rs 34,000 for the top 12/512GB version. However, the initial sale prices will be Rs 4,000 lower than these amounts. And as a bonus, a 1+1 year extended warranty is offered. The Pro model is not coming to India.
