Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, the sixth generation of Samsung’s foldable phones, will be introduced at the Galaxy Unpacked event to be held on July 10. There is a remarkable detail among the leaks about these new models: Dust and water resistance.
Reports emerged last year that Samsung was trying to make foldable devices dust-proof, but the fifth-generation Galaxy Foldables did not have this feature. Now, according to leaked information, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 may come with IP48 dust and water protection certification. This certification shows that the phones will protect against solid objects larger than 1 mm and can withstand immersion in water deeper than 1 meter.
Samsung and many other companies have ensured that the hinge structure is waterproof. However, dustproofing still remains an obstacle to overcome. The moving parts of foldable phones (especially hinge components) are at risk of faster wear and tear if dust particles enter. Therefore, dust protection is quite critical for foldable phones.
Samsung used brush-like structures in its previous models to prevent dust particles from entering the hinge. Although these models are not officially certified for dust protection, rigorous testing has shown that they offer a certain level of dust resistance. However, with official certification, this protection is expected to be more reliable in new models.
As a result, Samsung’s ability to exceed these technological limits and increase the durability of its foldable devices is an important development for users. Devices that are especially resistant to dust and water will be more reliable and useful in the long run. We look forward to seeing all the features and details of these new models at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10.
