We have left behind a very difficult day for Gmail, which became the world’s most used e-mail client, dominating the entire industry shortly after it was launched by Google. We are talking about what is happening on the Gmail front, which is experiencing a general collapse that affects many countries.
Gmail became inaccessible for a short time
The service outage in Gmail occurred on August 8, 2024, at around 23:00. Although the service outage affecting the United States, the United Kingdom, certain parts of Europe, Asia and South America was quite short-lived, it is not known exactly how many people it affected.
Users who want to access Gmail, which is used by 1.8 billion people worldwide and is also known as the jugular vein of Google, are faced with the famous ‘Opps, something went wrong!’ So they encountered the error ‘Unfortunately, something went wrong’.
In the image you can see above, although the website DownDedector shared service outage information about Gmail all day long, these complaints peaked around 23:00.
82 percent of those who complained to the site said they had difficulty sending e-mails, and 15 percent said they encountered connection errors. Although Google has not yet made a statement about the outages on its social media accounts, it was shared on its official website that the outage has begun to be investigated.
In this sense, it is still unclear what caused the outage and whether it was a cyber attack. Detailed statements from Google are expected to be published soon.
