Get Ready for the Most Impressive Meteor Shower of the Year with Yandex Weather
Every year in August, it is possible to watch an intense and spectacular meteor shower in the sky. As Comet Swift-Tuttle leaves a trail of dusty particles, these cosmic grains race towards Earth in streams at enormous speeds from the direction of the Perseus constellation (hence the name Perseids) and ignite in our planet’s atmosphere.
Although the meteor shower lasts almost a month, its most intense moments occur on the night of August 12-13. During this period, 60 to 100 meteors can be seen per hour by looking at the sky. The best time for observation is stated to be after midnight, when the Moon drops below the horizon and the sky becomes completely dark.
However, the maximum intensity of the Perseid rain occurs between 02:00 and 04:00 in the morning. Ideal weather conditions will prevail across Türkiye to watch the meteor shower. Skies will be clear in the evening and night thanks to a strong anticyclone.
Temperatures will also remain mostly comfortable for anyone who wants to admire the Perseids. Temperatures above 30°C are expected in some provinces such as Izmir, Antalya, Adana, Gaziantep and Diyarbakır on the evening and night of 12-13 August.
In Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Diyarbakir and Ankara, the weather will be clear and cloudless, and the temperature will be high. The Perseid meteor shower will most likely be clearly visible in these cities. This is the case in almost all other cities of Turkey; However, the weather will be partly cloudy in Samsun and therefore it may be difficult to watch the meteor shower.
This situation offers a unique opportunity to observe the meteor shower, especially if the recommendations of Yandex Weather are followed.
Suggestions for Watching the Meteor Shower:
Remember to find a place away from the city and light pollution. Arrive at your observation point a little early to allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness. Choose an open area, bring a mat or sun lounger with you for maximum comfort. Don’t forget to take your cold drinks with you.
