Especially with the development of artificial intelligence technologies, there is a cat and mouse chase between malicious software developers and hackers and cyber experts who close security vulnerabilities: According to the latest information, hackers have now discovered an important vulnerability through which they can listen to your conversations with 5G. Here are the details…
5G calls may not be safe!
A group of cybersecurity researchers working at Pennsylvania State University announced that they discovered a series of important vulnerabilities in 5G infrastructures.
Researchers, who published an article during the talks held within the scope of the Black Hat Security Conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, identified infrastructure vulnerabilities one by one in the 5G chips used in phones produced by Google, OPPO, OnePlus, Motorola and Samsung, using a special analysis tool called 5GBaseChecker.
The researchers who conducted the study shared that they were able to launch an attack by allowing phones with 5G vulnerabilities to connect to a fake base station, and thus they could easily control both phones and access their contents. The scary thing is that this work, called 5GBaseChecker, has now been shared on GitHub and its accuracy has been officially confirmed.
Researchers stated that most companies they contacted fixed the problem. For example, Samsung spokesman Chris Langlois stated that they were aware of the seriousness of the work done and that their security teams were immediately instructed to solve the problem, while Google spokesman Matthew Flegal said that they solved the problem with the updates they published.
