Green light was given to the National Competence Move Project!

The defense industry is one of the most important elements of a country’s security infrastructure. In this context, Turkey has launched the National Competence Move Project, which will be managed by the Defense Industry Academy, which aims to strengthen talent management in the defense industry.

The National Competence Move Project was approved by the Defense Industry Executive Committee under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on August 6, 2024. Its main purpose is to contribute to the development of the sector by increasing the skills and competencies in the human resources of the defense industry ecosystem.

It aims to ensure that talents complement each other and thus ensure an integrated development of the ecosystem, rather than just a development based on competition. In this context, the project to be carried out by the Defense Industry Academy plans to focus on talent and competence values and ensure their dissemination throughout the sector.

Domestic and National Air Defense Network: Steel Dome

It was decided to develop the domestic and national Steel Dome project, which will strengthen Turkey’s air defense capabilities.

It aims to expand the transfer of knowledge, skills, expertise and critical experiences and to restructure the business culture with new technology and behavioral models. It also focuses on developing competencies and strengthening these talents with value-adding competencies.

The National Competence Move also envisages increasing the number of defense industry employees to the target of 158 thousand by 2028, thus making Turkey a global power. In line with these goals, it is planned to develop and transform technical, functional, cross-functional, behavioral, professional, leadership and business culture-related competencies, disseminate them in the sector and manage change.

Defense Industry President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün emphasized the importance of this project and stated that behind every high technology in the defense industry are qualified human resources. Görgün said, “Talent is one thing, but competence is everything,” and expressed how the right competencies differentiate talent and increase performance.

The project will focus on various target groups, especially high school and university students, new graduates, young professionals, industry experts, team managers and senior managers. Programs and platforms will be created for these groups at four different impact levels, such as awareness raising, operational competence development, leadership competence development and strategic competence development.
